Where It Started

What Was Left Behind

An old Portuguese-style apartment with dated finishes, heavy wooden furniture, and a layout that hadn't been touched in decades. The bones were solid. The layout worked. Everything else had to go.

Living Room

Everything Faces the Fire

An open plan that revolves around a contemporary fireplace with the TV above. Sectional sofa in neutral grey with rust and coral accents. The dining table sits between the living area and the kitchen island — no wasted space, no corridors, everything flows. Look closely at the glass patio doors and you'll spot the cat flap built into the frame. Maya's Homes is always pet-friendly — it's a detail most contractors overlook, but for the people who live here, it matters.

Dark Granite. No Apologies.

A massive island in dark granite commands the room — stovetop on one side, bar stools on the other. The cabinetry is handle-less and clean, letting the stone do the talking. Three pendant lights hang low enough to make the island feel like a table you'd want to sit at all evening. Because the best materials aren't always the most expensive — they're the ones that look incredible and won't give you problems ten years from now.

Not Just a Corridor

Decorative masks line the wall — collected over years, not bought in a set. A gold sunburst mirror. Oriental rugs layered on wood flooring. The mirrored wardrobes aren't just for show — they're full-depth storage with shelving inside, doubling as both a design feature and practical closet space. Look at the doors — they're original. We kept them on purpose, for the character and the contrast against the modern finishes. Every door has magnetic locks and concealed hinges.

A Gold Bathtub Behind Glass

The freestanding bathtub sits behind a glass partition, visible from the bedroom — a deliberate choice that blurs the boundary between sleeping and bathing. Gold fixtures, porcelain tiles, and a walk-in shower with matte-black hardware. The vanity floats on a wall of patterned tile. Materials that look stunning and last — all the beauty and charm without the upkeep or the cost.

Colour Where It Counts

A rich oriental rug and textured bedding bring warmth to an otherwise neutral room. The wardrobe runs floor to ceiling — a mirrored wardrobe that makes the space feel twice its size.

Clean Lines, Warm Light

White vanity, white tiles, and a frameless glass shower. The floor is made from tiles that imitate wood — the warmth and texture without the water damage risk. Warm recessed lighting softens everything. Simple, functional, and built to last.

Outdoor

Built for Living, Not Just Looking.

The original patio was narrow near the living room entrance — tight enough that people would trip on the step down. We extended the footprint, widened the access, and laid tiles that mimic wood across the entire surface. The look and warmth of a wooden deck without the splitting, the warping, or the maintenance. New windows were cut into the facade to flood the interior with light, and the bedroom windows were converted into full sliding doors for direct patio access. A modern pergola, a rebuilt BBQ station, wicker seating, and enough room to host without feeling cramped.
